Parya Trillium Foundation held a dinner at its center on Saturday, November 7th, 2019, to celebrate the achievements of Iranian students who were the recipients of the Parya Foundation Scholarships of Academic Year 2019-20.
Twenty-four of the 61 recipients of this year’s scholarship could attend the celebration. Mr. Tabrizi, founder, and president of the foundation welcomed the guests. Dr. Ganjavi, Chair of the Scholarship Committee, thanked the donors and provided some information about the scholarship Program. This year we had 118 applications from 32 colleges and universities across Canada. The main selection criteria included academic performance and financial needs. The 61 recipients are from 24 colleges and universities. There is a gender balance among the recipients as 48% are female and 52 are male. Most of the recipients are students on a student visa. This is a reflection of the fact that due to the devaluation of Iranian currency many students who depend on family support experience financial hardship.
Before the dinner, Dr. Abbas Milani, the guest speaker gave an inspiring speech about the notion of philanthropy in the past in modern times. The celebration concluded with some musical performances by local vocalists.
